Dr. Richard Holden

After putting himself through the University of Vermont, Rich Holden volunteered to join the U.S. Navy in 1965. He spent a year supporting our ground troops in Vietnam and flew over ninety combat missions in his A-4 Skyhawk from the decks of the Intrepid. After four years of aviation, the Navy awarded Rich a full medical school scholarship, so he began his medical career training at the New Jersey Medical School.

Rich completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. He was then selected by the Navy to remain in the teaching program as an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery. During his teaching career, he became an expert in arthroscopic surgery and introduced new techniques to the teaching program. In 1983, after 17 years of military service, Captain Holden established Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery in Chesapeake, VA. His practice has grown to the present nine physicians. During that time, Rich was also selected to the Board of Trustees of Chesapeake General Hospital, where he served as Chairman.

A wrist injury in 1981 and a back injury in 2001 finally prompted his change from the physical demands of surgical practice to a lighter scheduled office practice in 2003. In addition to enjoying hunting, fishing, flying, ACC sports, and traveling, he has also taken courses in small engine repair and welding. He recently became very interested in land development through his son, Garrett, especially when he visited Leesville Lake.

Rich has always enjoyed being close to water and all the activities that waterfront property provides: SCUBA diving, fishing, sailing, water skiing, Para-sailing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and picnicking. He and his son Garrett believe that fresh water lakes will become the most desirable properties and solid investments in the country.

Pat Holden, originally from Wilmington, NC, has worked with people living with cancer since 1973--serving 8 years as a non-denominational Chaplain, 4 of which were in Hospice. She has facilitated workshops and taught courses in diverse fields. Pat enjoys writing, reading, music, walking, photography, and "butterfly/hummingbird gardening." She is currently developing the non-profit Bridges Healing Center, offering creative modalities to facilitate healing after sudden change, life-threatening diagnoses, or loss.

She earned an B.A. in Philosophy and English from Randolph-Macon Woman's College and a Masters in Educational Psychology from Montclair State University, and is certified in: Montessori Education, Reiki Healing, and Life, Death, and Transition training by Elisabeth-Kubler Ross, M.D.

Married since 1969, the Holdens have enjoyed working together on challenging projects, including design and hands-on construction of their passive solar home...and raising their two grown sons: John, a private jet charter pilot, is married to Meg, and they are expecting their first child in August 2007. Garrett, a commercial real estate agent, land developer, and avid outdoorsman, has brought three rambunctious Labrador retrievers to spoil with perpetual dummy-throwing for their retrieval!

Pat loves all water sports, as she grew up boating, fishing, sailing, and water skiing at Wrightsville Beach, NC. She and her family have found Falcon Ridge is the ideal natural setting for enjoying these activities with all ages.

Beyond just a serene "escape," Falcon Ridge offers chances for active life immersion: fulfillment and energizing renewal of the whole person and family--serenity and vitality growing in one special location.

"We've toured twelve other properties before finally discovering Falcon Ridge--easily the best kept secret in Virginia. We can't wait to start building! The amazingly low tax rate (only 48 cents for $100 assessed value) allows us to build a much larger home than we had in northern Virginia."
George and Kay, Property owners

“My wife and I were unsure of what to expect after responding to a Falcon Ridge advertisement in the paper. However, they put us right at ease with their low-pressure sales approach and helpful demeanor. They provided us with all the information that we needed to make our decision. As a result of their professionalism, we found the property of our dreams and can't wait to become full-time residents of Falcon Ridge.”
